I love training.

Whether it’s social media training or online public engagement training more generally, it’s a great way to help people get the most out of their online software, and a great way for me to learn more from the people I train too.

Over the years I’ve run training sessions and courses for lots of different organisations, from Central Government in the UK, Middle East and Africa, to UK local authorities and private companies, but I’ve noticed three problems.

First of all, training seems to follow fashion. For example, everyone thinks being trained in Social Media is crucial, and yet many organisations would see far better results from understanding how search engines work before worrying about the latest social media buzzwords. I train people in what will work for them.

Second, training is too generic. You get far more value from training if it focuses on the areas you know you need to learn about. So I work with all of my clients to understand their objectives, and shape some training that enables them to be met.

Third, training costs too much. It doesn’t cost me any more to train one person than it does ten people, so why should training be charged per attendee? My training is run with a flat fee, so you can bring as many people to it as you wish.
